You should also look into the problem that has been widely reported with Edge owners for the TSS and OSS sensors. Not safe when youre driving down the freeway at 70 mph and the speedometer, odometer and computer turns off and you cant accelerate. They said my oil was fine and that the thick black metallic oil dripping is coming from my gear box and that I should get that checked right away. I brought it to a mechanic and he called me the next day saying that I needed a new transfer case (or PTU power transfer unit). Apparently it controls the all-wheel drive aspect of my car and he told me this is very common in similar Fords with AWD. The oil heats up and has no venting hole and gets spewed out somehow and it looses oil until it dries up and your shit out of luck. That spewing hot oil is what was causing the bad smell in the cabin. Apparently theres no fix to it or aftermarket product available so he would have to order the part from Ford and it would cost me just under 2000 to fix. I told him to hold off and made some calls and research. Apparently, this has been happening for quite a while now. I called Ford and booked an appointment to get my PTU changed. I found out today that luckily this is covered under the power train warranty (less than 100,000km5 yr). But what gets me is the fact that this seems to be a recurring problem since its an engineering malfunction and not to a specific part so it will happen again. No recall on this. After spending about 1000.00 in repairs and now needing to replace the PTU labour the total surrounding a PTU only is coming to astounding figure of 3200.00 for one part that essentially, without it, the vehicle cannot function. An update from my post the other day. Had my 2010 ford edge taken apart today and found a bad ptu. Found one on ebay 680 for new one with 2 year warranty plus 7hours labor and gaskets and seals. 2,000 later. Time to get rid of the junk ford. Will never by a Ford product again. Rick d 2007 Ford edge we just replaced PTU 1800 Our repair shop informed us about this lawsuit Ford needs to make this right Just received an estimate for replacing the PTU in my 2007 Ford Edge. Will be replacing it next week. Hope I dont break down over the Holiday. Just had PTU replaced as it was leaking. Paid 1500. Now have 2007 Ford Edge in the shop for a hard shift. Coils and spark plugs replaced to the tune of 1600 but rough shift still happening. Ford dealership wants to rebuild transmission for 3500. This seems ridiculous considering all the previous comments. Ford should be recalling this car Same problem leaking PTU on 2012 ford explorer limited 2500 repair estimate. I have a 2011 Lincoln MKZ that I just had to take to dealer 2 days prior to Christmas to learn that it would cost 1852 plus tax, and possibly 960 for a new drive shaft to fix a problem I had no idea was coming. On top of that Im being told my tires which I purchased all new in 2014, Vehicle in in 2013 which Im still making payments on. This has come at a horrible time as Ive been struggling with debt all year. I find hope in the fact Im not the only one who has experienced this issue and that others have reached out to FordLincoln for some type of acknowledgement, be it a recall of some type, improvements in the technology something. I also had same costly issues with my Ford Explorer and am now visiting never again purchasing a Ford unless some type of relief is provided. This power take off unit issue is obviously inherent in model design. Then issues with the coils, then turbo, all was underived warranty. Now we are hang issues with the Ptu unit and will cost about 2000.00 to fix.
